One of the most important challenges in scientific and non-scientific areas in recent centuries in all parts of the world is the issue of women's rights. Islamic societies also have dealt with this issue and there have been many conversations and even conflicts about women and their place in Islam and Islamic jurisprudence. In this regard, it can be said that the most challenging verse about women in the Holy Quran is 4:34 which refers to issues such as the strength of men, the superiority of men, obedience to men and multiplication by men. Meanwhile, modernists such as "Islamic feminism" has offered different views. Therefore, in the present article, the views of Asma Barlas as one of the prominent modern thinkers of Islamic feminism regarding verse 4:34 are explained and evaluated in a descriptive-analytical manner. Barlas believes that the patriarchal interpretive tradition in Islamic societies has ignored the divine revelations of the Qur'an and attributed its patriarchal misconceptions to divine will. He interpreted “Qiwamah” to "protection", “Tafzil” to "financial superiority", “Qonoot” to " submission to God, not the husband", “nuzhuz” to "disruption of marital life, not disobedience to the husband" and “multiplication” to "symbolic act, not a beating." It is demonesterated that Barlas's thought, ie the historicity of the Qur'an, has serious shortcomings, and some of her Qur'anic views on verse 4:34 are contrary to the Qur'anic appearances, lexical sources, and narrations of the Infallibles (peace be upon them).
