Abstract
One of the distinguishing features of Shia hadith, rooted in theological foundations, is the extension of the presence of the Infallibles (AS) after the Prophet (PBUH) and the continuous writing of hadith during this period. Numerous works were written under the encouragement and overarching supervision of the Imams (AS) in various formats, which played a central role in the validation system of early scholars. For them, the authenticity of hadith was dependent on a "system of indications," with the majority of these indications being centered around "written sources." According to Shaykh Bahāʾī in Mashriq al-Shamsayn, one of the indications of the credibility of a source for early scholars was the "presentation of the book to the Imam and its approval." This study, using an analytical method and aiming to elucidate the basis of hadith authenticity for early scholars, examines the narrations regarding the presentation of hadith books to the Imams (AS). One of the findings of this research is that the presentation of a book to the Imam, whether in a detailed or summarized form, was considered a method of book evaluation by early scholars. Given the historical breadth and diversity of books, this can be considered a tradition among them. However, challenges such as the multiplicity and dispersion of manuscripts in Islamic lands, the loss of many presented books, and the degree of approval or rejection by the Imams (AS) make the use of this criterion challenging for later scholars.
