"Teyr" is used in the Qur'an in the literal sense of "bird" in many cases. Examining the meanings of this word in the relevant verses, taking into account the context and accompanying words and interpretation opinions, indicates the existence of other meanings in addition to the concept of "Teyr" in many applications. This confirms the necessity of conducting a more detailed research on the implied meanings of "bird" in the Qur'an with linguistic approaches. Symbolology is one of the linguistic methods that examines the apparent and unfamiliar meanings of words that are interpreted as symbols. Since the Qur'anic uses of "bird" have both apparent and implied meanings in the initial analysis, they can also be analyzed from the perspective of symbology. Based on this, the present research, relying on the approach of Chevaliyeh and Cooper, who are the authors of two specialized dictionaries of symbols, has investigated the relationship between different cultural and ritual symbols of "Teyr" with Quranic uses. The findings of this research indicate the existence of a great similarity between the Quranic uses of "Teyr" and the ritual-cultural symbols of "bird" in the form of the general concepts of "good or bad fate", "connection with the higher world" and "sanctity".
