Abstract
Nushuz of husband, or the disobedience of the husband, is a social and familial ill that poses challenges to marital relations and threatens the security of women within the family. This significant issue has also been addressed by God in verse 128 of Surah An-Nisa. Social interpretations of the Quran have also paid particular attention to this matter, delving into its various aspects. This present study aims to examine the perspectives of classical and social Quranic interpreters on Nushuz using a descriptive-analytical and comparative approach. The findings of the study reveal that classical interpreters have primarily focused on the linguistic and literary aspects of this verse, demonstrating a generally acceptable performance in this regard. Additionally, among social interpretations, only a select few have been successful in elucidating the social themes of this verse and offering novel readings.
